Bamboo Maintenance Tools and Supplies

Rhizome Barrier

Annual root pruning is one way to keep bamboo in bounds. Our root barrier of 40-mil HDPE (high-density polyethylene) is another. This ultraviolet-resistant plastic is flexible enough for ease of install but thick enough to redirect the rhizomes of bamboo (and the roots of other traveling plants such as raspberries).

See Care & Maintenance of Bamboo for tips on use of the barrier.

The barrier is available in 24 and 30 inch depths. Our staff will cut you a continuous piece that is priced by the foot; $2.00 per LF for 24 inch and $2.50 per LF for 30 inch. Measure the perimeter of your planting area and add several feet for overlap. Discount applies if purchase entire 100lb roll. The barrier rolls up for easy transport.

Shovels

The shovels we carry are professional grade and not widely available to home owners. We rely on the long-handled Wolverine to maintain bamboo at our clients' homes and here at the nursery. The all steel construction and long blade is ideal for bamboo rhizome pruning.

Eva Grip Saw

This saw lets you appreciate the art of using a hand tool. The thin tri-cut Japanese blade makes precise clean cuts.

We also carry our favorite saws for culm and rhizome pruning, the Silky PocketBoy and Gomtaro.
