Poles age naturally to a gray color reminiscent of weathered cedar. To maintain the original look of natural Tonkin and Moso bamboo poles, apply multiple coats of catalyzed tung oil. Or after poles have weathered a while, refinish with traditional wood stains and sealers. Splitting is natural over time especially in hotter, drier conditions so we cannot guarantee against splitting.

Tonkin Cane

Yellowish-tan canes from the Arundinaria amabilis bamboo are straight and smooth. The name "Tonkin" is from its earliest source of trade, the Bay of Tonkin. These are popular for fence and trellis construction, plant stakes and hanging wall decorations.

Moso Bamboo

Tan-brown canes from the Phyllostachys heterocycla pubescens bamboo in China are slightly rough textured. Nodes are closer together and walls are thicker than Tonkin. Use them for sturdy supports for a gazebo or trellis, rain gutters, for making vases or any other craft item you can dream up.
